A Eucharistic Life (Easter 2025)

The idea of a “Eucharistic Life” comes from Eastern Orthodox scholar Alexander Schmemann. It’s a picture of a life that begins in our hunger for God, our connection to the world, and our need for God’s abundant grace. As we walk through this series of the elements of the Eucharistic Life, we will cultivate the Eucharistic qualities gratitude, communion, and sharing.

June 8, 2025 -- A Eucharistic Church (Acts 2) - Pentecost Sunday

"The revolutionary movement of the Spirit is local and intimate and recognizably human. It’s not about transcending or escaping our humanity, but about living it out deeply and faithfully."

June 1, 2025 - "Empowered Mission" (Matthew 28:18-20)

"The gift of Eucharistic Life in Christ in a Eucharistic World is not just a gift for you, but a gift for all. And the gift you have been given isn’t just a gift for you to enjoy, but a gift to be shared."

May 18, 2025 - "Embodied Mission" (John 1, Leviticus 23)

"Some of you might hear the word "mysticism" and cringe. But there is a rich Christian mystical tradition that gets us out of normal assumptions about spirituality religion, moves faith out of just our heads and into our whole being, and emphasizes the Communion, Encounter, Deep Connection with God through Jesus Christ as experienced in the presence of the Spirit."

May 11, 2025 - "Losing Eucharist" (Genesis 3)

Quote from Alexander Schmemann: "The ‘original’ sin is not primarily that man has ‘disobeyed’ God; the sin is that he ceased to be hungry for him and for him alone, ceased to see his whole life depending on the whole world as a sacrament of communion with God…The only real fall of man is his non-eucharistic life in a non-eucharistic world.” (For the Life of the World, p. 25)

May 4, 2025 - "A Eucharistic World" (Genesis 1)

"When we see Jesus blessing, breaking, giving the bread and cup, we see him living out God’s creation movements AND our human VOCATION. The Eucharist we share--whether in token form or a full meal--is training us in how we relate to the world."
