"Something You Can Fill" (Lent 2012)
During the Advent and Epiphany seasons, we talked about how God has revealed himself to us and how we can listen to God's revelation. But often, our lives are so filled with other things--even good things--that there is no space for God to be present, speak, and fill us with what we most deeply need. During this Lenten series, we will be thinking about ourselves as bowls: bowls that need to be emptied of our things so that we can be filled with the things of God. And we will be looking at some tried-and-true spiritual practices to help us both to be emptied and to be filled again. The title for this series comes from this Caedmon's Call song. We will be using the image of a bowl throughout Lent as a symbol of our lives, a bowl that so easily gets filled with other things, and that needs to be emptied so that we can become "something God can fill."
